She rose her arms over head and then dove into the water. When she broke the surface of the water she flicked her hair over her head feeling dots of moisture trickle over her shoulders. It took her a moment to find Thorfinn again and swim closer.
Freya hadn't meant to end up so far away. "Hi." She placed her palms on his shoulder and lifted her out of the water some. She knew she could push him under the water if she tried but right now she was just trying to lift herself up some.
"Okay." She reached forward and traced a scar along his arm. "Hvað er þetta frá?" (what's this from?) Again it sounds awkward and her phrasing is very simple but she sees no reason not to practice while they're out swimming in the water.

He loved that she was learning his language. And it helped him with his English to speak it to her since he didn't want anyone knowing he could speak it yet.
Hearing her voice he looked back in time for her to say hi. When she traced the scar he looked down at it tipping his head. This was one of the harsher ones on his arms. He had no issue keeping her up in fact he enjoyed having her holding onto him. "I got it in a duel, I misjudged the distance I needed to move and I was caught with a long sword... I was around 10 If I recall."

Tonight, she wanted to talk and laugh and let go. Her legs kicked slowly in the water, keeping some of her weight off of Thorfinn's while lightly brushing against his side with her calf. She was half floating, allowing the currents of the water to pull her.
"Og þetta?" (And this one?) She pointed to a scar across his chest. It wasn't very long but it looks like he was stabbed. Freya couldn't help but wonder about each and every cut. Maybe over time she'd learn them all but right now she wanted to point to a few. His story was written all over his body, memories that he had to face despite their difficulty. It was admirable in a way. A painting of the past.

"Battle in Mercia. Bitch got me with the sword while I killer his captain. If you looK at my back it went clean through. We expected that one to kill me but it kissed the vitals."
no subject
"Oh wow." She looked down his back and saw the matching scar. She moved the hand that he wasn't holding and lightly traced over the scar. Scaring was so fascinating to her, as if it was a peek into a different world. She always thought of them as stories but unlike tattoo's you usually didn't pick what scarred.
"þetta?" (This one) Freya's finger was lightly tracing a scar that was near his shoulder blade.

He couldn't help the light smile at feeling her trace his scars. "That one I fell off a horse and hit a sharp rock."
no subject
She laughed softly, the tone vibrating against his ear. "Wait really? Oh, I was learning how to ride a horse. Jamie was teaching me. Usually horses are scared of me but I filled my pockets with apples so I didn't smell like wolf."
The memory made her smile.
no subject
He chuckled a bit. "We are not all born good at everything it takes much learning." He explained. "Jamie is a good man. I like him, he will teach you right."
no subject
"Yes but horses don't like me and he is." Her smile widened. "We ate apples." She really liked apples. "And I rose, I know all the basics but I don't know what makes a good rider." It wasn't like she did any tricks on the horse, she just made it go forward and then in a circle and then back to the stables.
"You know Jamie?" She honestly didn't think that Thorfinn knew that many outside of the Roadhouse group.
Freya leaned forward, pushing herself part way over her shoulder as she spoke.

"Lucky, I'd love to share an apple with a horse." He liked apple's to, he favored cider as a drink becuase it made him miss his mother and his youth. "It takes time," He reassured her when she leaned over his shoulder that bit and started moving so he could swim a little and pull her around slowly.
"Before I moved into the Roadhouse I would sleep in the stables a lot, so I met a lot of people who work there. Tell Delia you are a friend of mine one day, it's worth a laugh." He teased playfully.
no subject
"Who is Delia? I feel like there is an inside joke that I'm missing here. Is it because you're a grumpy Norse-boy who doesn't like making friends." She blinked. "Oh.."
Freya poked a scar that was closer to his neck line. "Segðu mér um þetta líka." (Tell me about this one too.) She smiled up at him as the cold water rippled around them.

He couldn't help the slight amusement. "The houses here confused me when I first arrived, I've slept in enough straw beds to find the Stables comfortable, don't think its anything depressing. I just enjoy being outdoors with what I know than indoors without." He spoke as he swam then.
"That one, ...I dont really remember who did it but it was during a summer raid on a small down. I had about 7 cuts all near deadly points. Bjorn and Askeladd were shaking their heads as Ears just ripped into me about being to young to Enter Valhalla.... I didnt feel most of them. WHich is the truth, in the head of the moment I feel no pain, its when I calm down the pain comes."
"The big one beside it, The one that goes down my chest. That was a battle axe, I was six... Bjorn got the back of my shirt and yanked me back. I was green then and had no place there. As much as I hate to say it I would have been dead. I dont remember much of after he pulled me back until the winter. The battle was in fall, I lost a few weeks of memory."

She liked that Thorfinn was slowly moving around. It felt relaxing to have the force of the water slowly push against her side. Her gaze was positioned towards the stars before looking back at Thorfinn. She still wonders who Delia was but dropped it. Maybe it's someone she'll meet or someone who lived here. "You seem to like houses now." She pointed out with a bit of a smile.
Freya's legs kicked gently at the water. Small splashes echoed into the night and she couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to swim while drunk.
"Wow. You've really been through a lot." She watched him for a moment. "And you can still smile. You must be very strong."
no subject
Almost like he remembered he hadn't answered, which he realized at that moment he added. "Delia is someone that works at the dress shop and stables. She has a dog named Soriel" he spoke "I forgot to say that, she's cool." Then he shrugged his shoulders without throwing off his pace. "Their nice, I miss the houses I know though these are all different. Though to be honest Im used to sleeping outdoors or in barns. And I am strong in some ways, not so much in others... everyone has strengths Freya. I dont still smile, I have learned again how to... you have helped."
no subject
Her head tilted to the side, her hair continuing to fan out like a halo. "I've seen you smile." Freya was sure of that much. "I'm used to sleeping outside too. I thought, maybe that's why I can't just move into a place but I don't know." She's gotten a lot of offers but nothing has felt right and after a few days she feels restless and ends up moving somewhere else.
"I don't think I have any strengths." Freya continued to look up at him, watching him against the backdrop of the sky. The sky behind Thorfinn looked so fake compared to him. A flash of a memory, a dream, entered Freya's thoughts. She felt her hand release from Thorfinn's shoulder and in a moment of panic her face sank into the water. She kicked herself up looking a bit like a surprised and alarmed puppy.
no subject
"Not as much... you've helped with that. I used to never smile.. I saw no...Freya?" He heard her sputter as soon as she let go of his shoulder. He twisted himself in the water so he could turn to try help, but instead he laughed a little. She was adorable, and clearly not drowning.
no subject
Her palms rested on his chest and she lightly pushed him, enough for him to feel the force but light enough that he could easily fight her shove.
"You saw no what?" She didn't really want to focus on her struggling fight with the surface of the water where she'd clearly lost.
no subject
"Bull fucking shit, that was funny. You would laugh at me if our roles were reversed." he came back easily enough. "saw no point in smiling before I met you and others. Now, what happened? What made you choke on your hair." he teased. He liked her hair.
no subject
Freya shook her head before she lightly placed her fist on his chest. It looked as if she was getting ready to punch him but the threat was silent.
"Why do my and others make you smile?" She asked, not wanting to tell him what she'd been thinking of.
no subject
He looked down at her hand before grinning more, ready for it. "You because I like you, we get along well. Others for reasons alike but not as much.. Little things I guess. It's easier to relax here than home. Easier to see people as people and now objects in my way."
no subject
There, that'll show him.
When he broke the crest of the water Freya spoke though she didn't know if he'd hear her. "That's because I'm awesome." And not at all a clutz, well, only sometimes a clutz. It was because he'd caught her off guard or the image did anyway.
no subject
He could never leave well enough alone.
He had heard her but he made no notion that he had. His hair caked to his face, he tried to push it away, lifting both hands to do so.
no subject
"Hey." Her palms lifted up to shield her face though it didn't really stop his splash. She returned fire, skimming her palm along the water surface and spraying Thorfinn.
no subject
"Hey, Freya," He called over putting some distance between them. "This is kind of sappy, and don't you dare fucking laugh... but I'm really glad we met."
no subject
"Yeah?" Her smile might have gotten a little bit wider. "It's hard not to laugh." She was managing to resist this far. "I didn't know you were so sappy but I guess I must be too then."
She agreed with him.
Thorfinn was to far to splash so Freya begins to half dance in the water. Lifting her arms up and watching as the droplets of water fall back into the lake. Everything looked so much cooler at night.
